Teachers who have completed professional training in countries other than Canada are eligible to apply for teacher certification in Nova Scotia.  It is important for Internationally Educated Teachers (IETs) to know that they must meet the same certification requirements as Canadian teachers.  For teacher certification, IETs are expected to provide similar documentation and pay the same application fees as Canadian teachers. Below are the required documents to be included with the regular teacher certification application package:

  1. A completed application form (visit here for the application package)
  2. An Official Criminal Record Check (must include a Vulnerable Section Check) – please see application package for details
  3. Proof of Age
  4. Fee
  5. Official Transcripts of all completed and in-progress post-secondary undergraduate and graduate studies
  6. Statement of Professional Standing
  7. Proof of Teaching Service
